Individual Therapy -also known as psychotherapy or counseling- is a collaborative process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained licensed therapist. In Guzman Psychotherapy, we provide you with a safe, confidential and caring space to explore, talk, heal and grow. In our therapy sessions we will explore your feelings, behaviors, work through your challenging or difficult memories, identify aspects of your life that you may want to change, fully understand your symptoms and concerns, and work towards your desired change and goals. The benefits of our psychotherapy and counseling work include self-insight, inner fulfillment, raised self-esteem, a positive outlook and improved relationships.

There are many reasons why people seek therapy, from childhood traumas, or coping with major life changes to depression or anxiety disorders. Therapy is also beneficial for those whom desire personal growth and greater self-knowledge. A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy.

In individual psychotherapy, you will have an opportunity to discuss what’s on your mind on a weekly basis. The goals of individual psychotherapy may include resolving problems, adjusting to new or challenging life circumstances, such as your arrival to the United States, finding a career path, enhancing relationships and increasing life satisfaction.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I focus on unconscious processes as they are manifested in your present behavior. The goals of psychodynamic therapy are the client’s self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior.
